Pokémon Crystal: Chinese Version

A boxed copy of a Chinese-language translation of Pokémon Crystal! Complete with the manual, even. Despite the blurb on the back of the box stating this is the new Chinese translation of the game, they left in the "FOR SALE AND USE IN JAPAN ONLY" and added a spelling mistake ("AELLING SECONDHAND" instead of "SELLING SECONDHAND"). The sides of the box have information written in Japanese rather than Chinese, so I assume they took scans of the original Japanese version of Pokémon Crystal. I love the very yellow-tinted screenshot on the back of the box, there's something oddly nostalgic about it. Much like another boxed Pokémon game I have, the barcode provided on the box is for the Harvest Moon GBC game.

The cartridge itself has a slightly dodgy print to the label, with the Suicune artwork and Nintendo logo looking duplicated slightly to create an unintended blurry look. Interestingly, there's a codenumber on the cartridge label and front page of the manual too, "CH0074-2", which doesn't appear on the box anywhere.

Game Specific Notes

Playing through a bit of the game, it saves fully and doesn't seem to have any major glitches. Text input however is limited to numerical characters only for both the Trainer and for nicknaming your Pokémon.

There are some minor visual glitches when text loads (such as when opening the menu), but playing through for 30 minutes that was the only issue I came across.

As part of my interest in Chinese-language versions is to further work out where the translation for "Vietnamese" Crystal came from, I'll be keeping track of the different Chinese fan-translations of Crystal that exist, and I'll link below eventually when I add more of my cartridges that share this particular translation.

Given the stat-screen layout and the remnants of Japanese text (eg. in the Bag menu and Trainer Card), this was definitely built off of the Japanese version of the game rather than the English one.
